This Guy Asked Wendy's For a Year of Free Chicken Nuggets — and It Worked

The news of one guy from Reno, NV, asking Wendy's for free chicken nuggets was not an April Fools' prank. It was actually very real, and turns out — it worked. In early April, Carter Wilkerson tweeted at the popular fast-food chain, asking, "Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?" Never one to pass up an opportunity to clap back on Twitter, Wendy's responded with an offer Wilkerson just couldn't refuse.

That's right. Eighteen million retweets. Wilkerson immediately shared a screenshot of the company's response with his followers and everyone else on Twitter asking for help to reach the megamillion goal.

Weeks later, Carter has received 3.4 million retweets and counting, and while that's not even halfway to the goal of 18 million, it was enough to convince Wendy's to go through with its promise. Carter's viral tweet beat out Ellen DeGeneres's epic 2014 Oscar selfie to become the most retweeted tweet of all time, which Wendy's deemed impressive enough to give Carter what he asked for.

Wendy's priceless response was simply, "He gets them nuggs."

"Next time I eat these they better be free," Carter tweeted along with a photo of himself eating a Wendy's chicken nugget back in April.

And indeed, they will be. Congrats on the many, many Wendy's chicken nuggets in your near future, Carter. Talk about dedication!
